To scan a document, you must have the scanner's software installed.
Virtually every scanning program is laid out differently, therefore, it
would be difficult to give detailed instructions for every
installation.
Usually, the programs have certain settings that are common and we can
give some guidelines to follow in those cases.
We recommend the following settings to achieve adequate resolution
along with a minimal file size:
- A maximum resolution of 150 dpi.
- Black and White scanning (not color/true color).
- Save the file as a .png (Portable Network Graphics) file or .jpg
(Join Photographic Experts Group) type file. These file types offer
good compression (lossless and lossy, respectively).
- DO NOT save the file as a .bmp (Bitmap) file. These files are not
compressed.
- There are many proprietary formats different scanning programs use.
Please save the files in a standard format (.png or .jpg). You may also save the file in portable document format (.pdf) by using Adobe acrobat (full version, not just the reader).
The goal of the above settings is to get the file to be legible, and to have a file size of less than 200 KB (kilobytes).
